Since 1950, STATEMENT, Cal State LA’s magazine of arts and letters, has strived to cultivate a literary sensibility that is energetic, edgy, and eclectic. We herald in new generations of hitherto unknown poets, writers, and artists, showing a keen eye for untapped artistic potential. 

STATEMENT:

·  cultivates a creative outlet for new and undiscovered writers whose work displays a nascent mastery of their respective crafts;

·  independently reads and collectively discusses and evaluates every single submitted work in an intimate, family-like atmosphere around the same mahogany table since its inception;

·  provides our audience with inclusive, relatable, and mesmeric content, espousing the tenets of its parent university: civic engagement, mindfulness, and diversity; and

·  runs on the dedication of art aficionados, voracious bookworms, and avid adventurers of the great outdoors.
